RE: Pinned Vs. Unpinned Bufferpool

RE: Pinned Vs. Unpinned Bufferpool

To start with, was it pinned because of physical reads?

If the system has sufficient memory and if you allocated the said table to a BP of it's own then
you may not see any difference.

Typical DBA answer is, it depends so needs testing in OAT/production sized system :-)

Subject: Pinned Vs. Unpinned Bufferpool

Currently we are running UDB 8.1/FP-10. We have deliberately pinned the
bufferpools to improve response time. Now we do have multiple databases
on a 2-CPU Opteron box, and I am thinking about turning the registry
variable DB2_PINNED_BP to 'NO'.

Has anyone done some analysis as to what negative impact I will see?
Just curious...

Thanks a lot!
