They get the jobs because they show promise, and they get smarter by asking those kinds of questions. :)
I didn't even know what a TSO session or a CICS transaction when I interviewed for my current position. My knowledge has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few months because of people putting up with my 'noob' questions.
While the frustration is understandable and sometimes shared, I do hope this doesn't discourage anyone from asking the questions they need to ask to get the job done right.
Not trying to get on JAHuffman's case, just a perspective from the other side.

Please understand, ths IS NOT to anyone person, but to the whole
community at LARGE !!!
How do the people that post so many of these questions, how are they able
to be in the
job in the first place ???? I see DBA and DBA wannabes post questions
about simple, default
DB2 and Oracle function usage and questions. I see UNIX admins and admin
wannabes post questions
about how to use vi ( The best editor EVER !! ), or show a listing of a
directory, or how to
ftp a file, use ssh, or a host of other items!! While I do appreciate
the feeble attempts at
various forms of humor ( Oh so hard to be kind here .... ) , the reality
is this is really no laughing
matter. Since the conitnuing trend is to totally debase and diminish
IT
( that used to be a very good career ) to folks who can't even use
complete words, sentences,
and thoughts, in any language !!!!!
Aye Carumba !,

DB2 date format
Is there a formatting function that will convert an ISO date format
(yyyy-mm-dd) column into USA in a SELECT statement without the pain of
manually parsing the DateColumn, etc?
