You can also get db2 C-Express. Its free , looks like ESE , just no
maintenance with it. (ie you cant open pmrs)

Download on the IBM web site

Then load ESE on your desktop. That is the best. That's what I have
loaded for v7. loading PE for v8.2 if you serve out a db from ESE it
would be licensing issue, but to use it as a client and personal
playground is probably ok.

Bart,
We also purchased the Enterprise Edition for Production and the
Workgroup Server Edition for our Test environments. I am thinking that
I should load the Enterprise Edition on my pc. Right now, I have a
trial version of DB2 version 8.2 Fixpack 7 for Windows running on my
Windows XP pc am I have been practicing with the Sample database.

Hey, Ed! May I suggest loading Personal Edition on your desktop/laptop?
With that, you get the admin client plus the ability to create local
db's. the only limitation is that you cannot serve them out. In the
install you can choose to load the developer kit as well if you wish.
Plus other stuff you might be interested in.

But for me, it is a great help to have a sample db on my laptop to trash
and experiment with.

Hey Moreno,
I am glad you mentioned the admin client! Man, I got a big box of
software with two little blue books! hehe. Some of the software are:
DB2 Run-Time Client, DB2 Administration Client, and DB2 Application
Development Client. I think I know what piece of software to load on
those "developers"(Oh my! Phew!) pc! hehe.

I guess I'll load the DB2 Administration Client on my pc! Is that the
way to go? BTW, I'll be using Netbackup 6.0 to backup my DB2
databases.

Ed,

If you are running Windows and v8.2 fp7 I suggest to use the admin
client
once you select the DB you will se the size and all the settings for a
specific DB that will be easy.
To be specific I did not use this script on windows

Ed,

Look what i got from one of my DB's I'm working on v8.1 Fix pck 6

db2 => connect to BDDFN004

Database Connection Information

Database server = DB2/SUN64 8.1.6
SQL authorization ID = FDM81D
Local database alias = BDDFN004

db2 => select (sum(total_pages)* 4096)/(1024*1024) Tot_allocat_spce from
table(snapshot_tbs_cfg('',-1)) TBS_SPCE

TOT_ALLOCAT_SPCE
--------------------
130788

1 record(s) selected.

That's means I have a DB with a total of 130 GB in size and this is one
of
the shortest

Hey Guillermo J. Moreno M.
When I ran your code (it is not my original I copied from someone else
in
this forum), my output was:

TBS_SPCE
------------
0

What's up with that? hehe.

Hello there,

You may use the follow (it is not my original I copied from someone else
in
this forum)

DB size in MB:
select (sum(total_pages)* 4096)/(1024*1024) Tot_allocat_spce from
table(snapshot_tbs_cfg('',-1)) TBS_SPCE

That will give you the DB size in MB
Works great

DB2 database size and tablespace size ...

Hi all,

Am very new to DB2 so forgive me if I ask some very easy questions?

Anyway, is there a single command that I can run to show the size of my
database? At the moment, am doing list tablespaces show detail and then
adding
up Total Pages x Page Size and using the grand sum as the database size,

am I
doing it correctly this way?

Any advise will be very much appreciated .... thanks ...
