Hi Mark,
SA just told me that the other server can not have same
disk space as in production; they asked me to restore DB to same
production box.
It is kind of rick to me. If they insist to restore on same
box; what command I need to do? Can you provide me some procedures to
restore
cold dump in same box and can not impact current production
database name called (dpaf) ?
Thanks,
Sue

Re: How to restore db cold dump to different machine
Sue,
What Operating System is this for? I'll assume AIX.
First of all make sure you have the manuals handy if you get stuck.
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data/db2/udb/support/manualsv7.html
You'll want to focus on Command Reference V7.2
The safest thing to do would have your sysadmin do a mksysb to copy the
original environment to your new box. If they won't do that then....
On the original box you'll want to do a db2level command to find out what
fixpak you're on.
You need to install DB2 V7.2 with the Fixpak you just determined from the
db2level on your new machine. This includes creating the
instance/fenced/das userids and creating the instance. Test your
installation by running: db2sampl This will build the sample database,
if that works you're good to go.
You can't just copy /udbhome/db2pam/sqllib to the aix box, and if you had
to ask, then the safest thing to do is to install DB2 V7.2.
Once DB2 is up you can do a Restore of your backup to the new box.
You have to have the same filesystems on the new box as your old box. If
you don't you'll have to do a redirected restore.
so, assuming the filesystems are the same on both boxes (as far as DB2
Containers are concerned and log directories).
You'll need to do something like this:
RESTORE DATABASE mydb FROM /location/of/backup/directory INTO mydb WITHOUT
ROLLING FORWARD
good luck

How to restore db cold dump to
different machine
Hi all,
I am new to db2udb, but I got a request to restore May 01
2006's production cold db dump to different machine.
In the target machine there is not db2 udb software; can I ask
SA to copy from production /udbhome/db2pam/sqllib and our db2udb is v7.2.
what else need to be copied over to target machine?
How about os user's privilege ? Do they also need to be copied
over to target machine?
Any one has a procedure, how to do this cold backup restore to
different machine; please help!!
Thanks.
Sue
