Log files are at database partition level (bit of a DBA nitpick there).

Well,log files are database level.
If you are receiving log full error, you can do the following:
1. You can increase your logfilsiz, logprimary, logsecond param.
2. You can decrease the commit count and perform frequent commits.
3. Before starting the transaction you can activate not logged initilally
(for the table). However, the problem with the last option(3) is that if
your transaction fails at any point your table will be corrupted and you
will have to drop and recreate the table again,so before using the last
option, please export the table and generate its ddl's so that they can be
used later.
Regards,
I
