Opinions? All right! Opinions are more phun than phacts
We have all of our databases set to 5 (default). If someone wants a
different level, then they suffer. To quote Captain Kirk who quoted Mr.
Spock "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few - or the
one".
The one individual must be making-up for a physical shortcoming by
insisting the entire database be set to 0 (zero). Cultures have ways of
dealing with individuals who consider themselves more important than the
group. Typical examples are ostracism, behavior modification involving
electrical devices, and stoning. Pick and choose keeping local laws in
mind.

Subject: Default query optimization class (DFT_QUERYOPT) = 0
Greetings Turkey Lovers,
I have a question and I have my own strong opinion.
An individual has set the database SQL Optimization level to Zero
because his six SQL statements run faster that way.
I've asked this person to explicitly set the SQL optimization level for
each of his SQL statements instead of making the entire database suffer
as well.
At the same time we have heavy real-time replication running poorly so
the default Zero optimization level touches all, not just his six SQL
statements.
How many of you have a database query optimization set at Zero? How
many of you set the SQL optimization level explicitly for individual SQL
statements?
Please talk amongst yourselves and all comments are appreaciated.
