db2 "connect to DBNAME" works if you are already logged in with instance owner userid

or

db2 "connect to DBNAME user USERID using PASSWORD"

replace capitalized words with the correct information.

PS: If you get an error on the "db2" command, be sure you have the following in your profile
$HOME/sqllib/db2profile
