Re: WSE Installation instructions please

Ravi,
For starters, Win XP is only support for DB2 in a Devlopment environment
and not recommended to be used in a prouction environment as it is not a
Server version of Windows.

DB2 Workgroup Server Edition run on: Win 2000 and Win Server 2003

DB2 Enterprise Server Edition (and Workgroup) can be installed and run on
Windows XP, but it is only for testing and development purposes.

Is this for DB2 V8.2 or DB2 9?
For DB2 V8.2

For DB2 9

Disk and memory requirements

*** NOTE *** these are minimums.

What sizes you will need will be based on the size of your database and the
workload... OLTP vs. BI.
Rule of Thumb.
150GB - 250GB per CPU.
4GB RAM per CPU
8 disks per CPU

Don't underestimate the disks. Your disk subsystem is the foundation that
your database will reside on.

From the DB2 V8 manuals.
Disk and memory requirements (Windows and UNIX)
Disk requirements

The disk space required for your product depends on the type of
installation you choose and the type of file system you have. The DB2 Setup
wizard provides dynamic size estimates based on the components selected
during a typical, compact, or custom installation.

On Windows, you might require significantly more space on FAT (File
Allocation Table) drives with large cluster sizes than with NTFS (New
Technology File System) drives.

Remember to include disk space for required software, communication
products, and documentation.

Memory requirements

At a minimum, DB2 UDB requires 256 MB of RAM. 512MB of RAM memory is
recommended if you use the GUI tools. When determining memory requirements,
be aware of the following:
For DB2 client support, these memory requirements are for a base of 5
concurrent client connections. You will need an additional 16 MB of
RAM per 5 client connections.
Additional memory is required for other software that is running on
your system.
Additional memory might be required to improve the performance of the
DB2 GUI tools.
Specific performance requirements can determine the amount of memory
needed.
Memory requirements are affected by the size and complexity of your
database system.
Memory requirements are affected by the extent of database activity
and the number of clients accessing your system.
On Linux, a SWAP space of at least twice as large as your RAM is
recommended, but not required. (MT says: same size as RAM at a
minimum until your workload is understood)

If you're a Passport Advantage customer you can download from PA. If not
you'll need to contact the IBM Sales Rep or Business Partner. If you have
trouble with that I can point you in the right direction.

WSE Installation instructions
please

Hi,

I have been involved so far, in maintaining existing databases.
First time I am trying to install Work Group Server edition on Windows-XP
for some development project of Java.
It's for a new development project, which is developed by about 25
programmers, later it would be moved to Production.
Can you please provide me what are the minimum System requiremets(disk
space, memory, processor) of db2 server machine.
Also, how do we order the product with IBM and its installation
instructions.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions..

Ravi
