On 32-bit, maximum useable memory for DB2 is about 2 GB in normal case.
If you have used 'immediate' option in the alter bufferpool command, you
donot have to restart the instance. )

DB2 BUFFERPOOL
Hello, I need your help.
I increased a 4K buffer pool from 48,000 pages to 96,000 pages in our
production instance and db2diag showed the following error:
MESSAGE : ADM6050W The ALTER BUFFERPOOL statement for buffer pool
"DATABP"
(ID "6") was successful but could not be performed immediately
because of insufficient memory. The change will take effect on
the
next database startup. Refer to the documentation for SQLCODE
20189.
Actually our system still show over 8,000 MB memory FREE. Later I found
out this was due to a known bug with AIX - DB2UDB 8.1 fixpak7 where the
instance needs to be restarted for the new BP to take effect.
My problem is that all 8 GB free memory has completely vanished after the
restart.
Is it safe for me to scale back my change or should I pick up the phone
and call IBM support before someone breathes behind my back?
Thank you very much for your help.
