RE: recent records in table

RE: recent records in table

There is no way to find the last record entered unless (possibly) you
get a log reader and physically examine the log. Otherwise you'd have to
do what Suresh suggested. There is nothing inherent to a row in a table
that would give an absolute as to when it is inserted in relation to all
the other rows in the table.

A real bad way to get these records does exist if you are reatining your
logfiles.

Restore the backup that was taken befre the insert/update roll forward
to a time before the the records were added. Export the table entries.
Repeat and rollforward till after the records were added Export the
table entries and find the difference.

This is extremely tedious. But if you have to find out when a record was
added this will get you there

You need to add a new column with data type timestamp to your table
defined with 'NOT NULL WITH DEFAULT CURRENT TIMESTAMP'. When you
insert
new records in to the table, this column will automatically populated
and
you can run queries based on this column to find out the most
recently
added records. :)
