This is a loaded question. It all depends on their backup and recovery
strategy. Circular logging uses less disk space, but only allows for
offline backups. Archive logging requires disk space for the archive
logs, but allows for online backups and tablespace level recovery. It
will also allow for point in time recovery. It would be good to read all
the information in the IBM docs about logging. It is explained there
fairly good. Also, you should not have to continually tune DB2. In 9
years I have made minimal configuration parameter changes, but I do have
to index tables properly for peak query performance.
Good Luck

Subject: DB2 Help
1.) Can someone please explain to me the disadvantages to Archive
Logging instead of Circular Logging? I just went to a customer location
tonight and they said they had to turn on archive logging to perform
online backups. Is there anything special I have to do, to turn off
archive logging and set it back to Circular?
2.) What are the top 10 performance bottle necks with DB2?
I am installer for a software company, and we have to tweak DB2 all of
the time.
Most sites are running DB2 Workgroup server edition 8.1 or higher on
Windows.
Please send me any tips that you have, just trying to make the world a
faster place.
