RE: Reorg not releasing expected space.

RE: Reorg not releasing expected space.

Hi Philip,

I think I've had the exact same problem. Whart helped me was using a
"LONGLOBDATA" parameter (AND POSSIBLY A "no access allowed") the
background being that regular reorg does not touch long object data, so
they will still clog up your otherwise freed space. Try it! Maybe you
can check whether there are LOB fields, CLOB, or so beforehand.

I hope you'll succeed; let me know, please, whether you do or not.
Mike.

Did you run "RUNSTATS and DB2RBIND after your REORG? After that, did
you stop and start your database?

Hi

We have 4k Tablespace that is nearing the 64gig limit. There are only
two tables in the tablespace. A very small Codes table and an events
table.
To avoid running out of space we deleted about 60% of the rows out of
the events table.
A reorg was run on the table, but no pages were freed up.

How can I see the amount of pages freed up .

The out of list tablespaces show detail before and after the reorg

Before:
Tablespace ID = 4
Name = PRD_EV_DAT
Type = Database managed space
Contents = Any data
State = 0x0000
Detailed explanation:
Normal
Total pages = 15976876
Useable pages = 15975936
Used pages = 14952960
Free pages = 1022976
High water mark (pages) = 14952960
Page size (bytes) = 4096
Extent size (pages) = 128
Prefetch size (pages) = 512
Number of containers = 4
Minimum recovery time = 2005-03-08-13.23.35.000000

After:

Tablespace ID = 4
