Type 2 indices in v8. Locking is dramatically reduced.

Subject
v7 versus v8 lock performance

We are running 2 similar servers running very similar workloads, with
one critical difference; one server is running DB2 V7.1, and the other
is running V8.2
We have noticed, at peak times, that the V7 server is flooded with
multitudes of locks that we aren't seeing on V8. Does anyone know if IBM
made any major changes to the lock management code between V7 and 8, or
should I be looking for other more subtle discrepancies between the two
installations?
Thanks for your help
