If you are speaking in terms of an array, a subscript would an element
of the array. Example array_a(1), the "1' is the subscript and it
would be the first element of the array if the array starts with 1. I
guess indexes could have subscripts also. But, in the database world,
an index is an object that data in a table, etc have been ordered
(sorted) on to provide fast and easy access to data in a table, etc.
