You might also consider the compress option of the backup command. It takes about twice as long to run, but it uses about 20% of the space.
The restore command can figure out whether a backup is compressed or not; so, nothing special to do there.
Can you put the backup directly to tape? TSM? Netbackup?

You can use the command DU -k |sort -n to sort the files which are
taking more space and check the db2dump directory where the db2diag.log
and db2_instance.nfy and any other trap and dump file will be written
check the sizes if they are more you can replace them with new once if
you don't want the precious once, so it will free up the space.
And also check you're home directory for CORE files which will take more
space.

Hi All,
I am using a remote login to unix AIX server, V9.1. I have an instance
sskundu and my home directory is /db2ramana/sskundu.
When I am trying to take a backup of any data base in my instance or
whatever its not allowing saying device /db2ramana is full.
How to clear up the space? Dropping any unknown table etc may harm
others work. Kindly help. Is there any query or command used for
cleaning up the space?
