We have a Var Char field which was defined as Not Null with Default of
spaces. We then use IBM's Information Integrator to migrate the data to
Oracle. We have a problem when the field is empty. It looks like it
stores the information with a length of 0. When it gets to Oracle it
says its null and will not allow the empty field to be loaded. We can
change the Oracle definition to say it allows nulls, but that causes a
problem in our CA Gen tool which has a common table definition and
generates our code against both Oracle and DB2 on the mainframe.
