I don't know if v9.1 supports Type-3 JDBC. We're not there yet.
The Java guys won't mind changing the driver and connection info it's just in a few connection locations in the code. If they have that stuff in every Java JDBC code they ever wrote, then they might complain about so many changes. They don't usually work that way.

Thanks Harvey - I'm just trying to get this into a test environment. I will
let the java-istas handle the code since that's not (yet) in my programming
toolbox.
Don't think they are going to like having to go into this old stuff at all
- but that's why they get paid.
Does v9.5 support type-3 at all ??

Bruce,
The type of JDBC connection that uses db2jstrt 6790 is Type 3.
The newer approach for JDBC is Type 4 with three different db2jcc*.jar
files replacing db2java.zip in the classpath.
The JDBC driver and DB2 connection parts of the Java program will have to
be updated. I've heard that there are a few differences with the code for
the SQL; so, I'd advise some testing before putting the modified Java code
into Prod.

We are currently DB2 v8 fp14 on AIX and one of our old applications
requires that I run "DB2JSTRT 6790" so that it can communicate with DB2
over port 6790. I don't do java so I don't even know what "type" driver
this is - 1,2,3 ( obviously not type-4).
As I get ready to test a migration from v8 to v9.5, I notice that db2jstrt
is no longer available - does this mean that this application just drops
dead until it is re-written, or is there a work-around for this ?
