RE: Catalog Cache Hit Ratio

Well, well, well!
It's Robert Yazujian! Hehe. How have you been?

Tuning the catalog cache

Catalog cache hit ratio can be calculated by using the following
formula:

(1 - (Catalog cache inserts / catalog cache lookups)) * 100

A smaller hit ratio is the indication that the catalogcache_sz should be
increased.

Subject: Catalog Cache Hit Ratio

Good afternoon,

I was wondering if someone could provide some advise on the
size of the catalogcache_sz parameter. We are running DB2 V8.2 on an
Intel LINUX box utilizing PeopleSoft as the software package. We have 8
gig of memory on the box with quad CPUs. The size of our catalog cache
is set to 800 right now. This was a recommendation from a consultant but
as I monitor this database, it appears the average catalog cache hit
ratio is between 80 and 89 percent most of the time. In a PeopleSoft
environment I do not know if you can achieve a 90 percent and better hit
ratio but will increasing the size of the catalog cache help? What
increments would be recommended in increasing the size? This might not
be enough information for someone to make recommendation on but if there
is anyone out there running PeopleSoft on DB2 I would like to hear from
them.

Any help would be appreciated. Bufferpool, index and package
cache ratios all look good in the 90 percent tile.

Thanks,

Yaz
