Re: Connection errors, and request for any good DB2 books

Another thought - I think I'm narrowing in on it... we just recently
changed the password for this particular user - now the password contains
an exclamation point (!) in it. I have noticed, since that change, that
in order to connect to the database with the Command Center, I have to
enclose the password in 'tick marks'. I don't have to do that when
connecting via the command line processor, but with the Command Center
GUI, I do.

So in the Command Center, I can connect - I do the "connect to db_name
user jde using 'PASSWORD!'" - and with the password in 'tick marks', I can
connect. But then any kind of query I try to issue spits out an error
about the bad username/pwd. Could this be because of the exclamation
point in the password? The previous password had a dollar sign in it, and
I never saw this problem. Does the Command Center do something strange,
where every time you issue a query, it is passing along your username and
password to the database, and somehow it is dropping the 'tick marks' from
my password, hence it is throwing the error? If so, is there any way to
get around this, other than changing the password again, and removing the
exclamation point?

Thank you,
Brad

Subject
Connection errors, and request for any good DB2 books

Hi all - any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a 7.2 DB2 UDB database, where I can connect successfully using the
Command Line Processor, and I can issue queries, and everything is fine.
However, when I try to login via the Command Center, I can connect, and
that appears fine, but any query I try to issue results in this error:

"DBA2192E Database connection failed.

com.ibm.db.DataException: The connection failed. The username and/or
password supplied is incorrect. :[IBM][CLIDriver] SQL1403N The username
and/or password supplied is incorrect. SQLSTATE=08004"

Any ideas on what is causing this, and how to troubleshoot and fix?

Second, I am an Oracle DBA, trying to become familiar with the DB2 world.
Can anyone recommend any good, solid books about DB2 administration? I
have the "All-In-One DB2 administration Exam Guide" book, by Roger
Sanders, but I've got to think there are better books out there - any
suggestions??

Thanks to everyone,
Brad
