Never feel stupid asking questions.
A 500 Mhz pc should be PLENTY to run Db2. (Assuming you are not trying to
do 200 transactions/second). There are several things you can do to greatly
improve the speed of DB2 on this box.
1. Remove a great number of the services running under XP. There are MANY
services under NT/W2K/XP that are not needed on a server.
2. Memory, Memory, Memory! Put a gig of ram in the machine and things will
really improve. You should change the DB2 config to tune the memory usage.
256M is what I would call a minimum.
