You could have a look at Redbook pdf "DB2 II: Performance Monitoring,
Tuning and Capacity Planning Guide".
Not sure where it is now, but I was impressed enough to download and print
off.

Does anyone have a link to documentation on DB2 federated databases? Is
there something out there that gives the steps in the process of setting up
a federated database environment?
