Help again -
I am being told that the IBM UDB Tool db2mtrk gives good information -
But I'm having trouble matching that up with IPCS and svmon
Has anyone else tried to match the numbers to verify what is being reported?

- Changed how the 'automatic' memory sizing is used.
- By default - 64 GIG is allocated in Shared memory for the default max size.
- Thus you can change your buffer sizes without having to bring down the system since the space is already allocated / reserved.
- Since AIX uses a late page allocation process, this does not impact the system until it is really allocated to a service.
- But - it does show up in svmon -P for the UDB pid as being allocated to Esid and Vsid entries.
- Since it is allocated - that also means there are other system overheads allocated as well.
- This brings up the issue of additional overhead just to have it defined even if it is not used.
- imho - it is better to set it to something more reasonable so you better understand what is really allocated to given subsystems. Unless you have systems devoted to just one application or UDB.
I'm open to other view points -
But Thanks for your insights and such a speedy response to my request.
