I like this, especially the part about talking the language of management, i.e., $$$.

But if you cannot do that then the advice my Daddy gave me long ago might apply, that is "It does not matter what you do, as long as you are the best at it". while being the best DBA is a laudable goal, but for most of us mortals, being in the top 25% should suffice.
