There are still many really big databases in IDMS. There is software that lets you run SQL against IDMS but it is more common to do extracts into another RDBMS to run SQL. California DMV, and I believe Florida DMV, are still using BDAM files which was the precursor to IDMS circa 1965. And the stuff still runs. That in itself is a feat.
