RE: DBA Role

RE: DBA Role

Whatever one can do with relational rdbms, IMS can do as well.
Newer release have brought it up to date.
So, it does the old stuff and new, like most of us, old time DBA's.

Frank,
We (Florida Department of Education) abandoned IDMS before I came over
(2000). I heard that the reason they did was web access via IDMS was
not possible. They went to DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL. Is that
true? If so, is it still true?

In 2003 IDMS license sales increased for the first time in many years.
All the RDBMS hype overshadowed the hierarchical DBMSs. To IDMS, Oracle
and DB2 are toy databases.
