Hi,
I am sure we have enough discussed this matter. Please stop all the
rubbish talks on this matter
or else do a one to one correspondance without involving the group.
Thanks

Oh look, a database complex.
I know the things IMS, ADABAS, DB2, UDB, SQL Server, Sybase and Roscoe (and
more) can and can't do.
But wait, there's more...
I know what VSAM, GTAM, GSAM and many more can and can't do.
You imply that your current flavor of database is the BEST? You've got to
be kidding!
What database system will you be working on in 5 years? 10 years? 20
years? Will you be a plumber by then? I probably will unless I end up as a
WalMart door greeter. :-)
Reminds me of the old OS wars... who won? The company with the best
product or the company with the most sales?
Get off the soap box Gary!!
Okay? Ok!

RE: DBA Role
May I suggest some casual reading on IMS version 8, 9, and 10.
See all the things IMS can NOT do.

I used to use IMS/DB back in the mid-eighties. That was a mildly
unpleasant experience - typical mainframe cryptic commands, and the
database is only fast for those queries that it is specifically designed
for. Need to know anything else and it's both a lot of work and slow.
Meanwhile, I haven't seen a new app go to IMS/DB since probably 1989.
But quite a few moved from IMS/DB to its relational competitors. I'd
consider it a serious dead-end.
