RE: DB2 v7 to v8 upgrade.

RE: DB2 v7 to v8 upgrade.

We are preparing to upgrade to V8 from V7. Yes, zOZ is required. You may also need a processor upgrade.

You may also have to look at CODEPAGE issues if you are currently using CODE PAGE 500 and you ever plan to need to represent characters like the EURO, and some other characters that are not defined in your code page. We are looking at having to convert some table prior to upgrading - what a big mess this is going to be. IBM can give you some scripts to run to see if you have any tables that will need your attention. We hear that converting after V8 is much harder, so we've been advised to convert prior to V8. This is no trivial task and is requiring much analysis and many meetings with management. You could be looking at a weekend down for all affected tables depending on volume and backout strategy. Keep in mind that if you do have to convert some tables, this will affects PLANS & PACKAGES that use them, so be prepared to do some massive rebinds the day of your conversion.

Anyone else been thru this already? Would be interested in hearing about your experience.

We have not yet upgraded to v8, but its on order so I do not know of any
problems.
V8 only runs on z/os

I'd thought I'd check with the group about any particularly nasty
problems. We only have a handful of COBOL programs since most of our
access is through VB 6.0. No stored procedures, yet. We'll start with
those after the upgrade.

We're on OS/390 but will be moving to z/OS. Does DB2 v8 require z/OS?

Thanks,
