Hi Nils,

This happens when the machine resources are not adequate. If my guess is correct then you must have installed Linux in a desktop class machine. Once the processes for the database manager starts the machine performance comes down as the dbm processes eats up quite a lot of memory and other machine resources. So when you try to connect to the database DB2 is not able to allocate the resources to your connecting session.

The workaround is shutdown one instance and use only one instance at a time OR increase the machine resources i.e if you have a 256 MB RAM upgrade it to 512MB. Look for the DB2 Linux Setup guide. This will also provide some help in setting some machine level parameters.
