RE: DB2 Performance Monitor

RE: DB2 Performance Monitor

Greg,

I just want to share my thoughts, because we spent almost year to decide
on which product to buy and finally bought smartDBA.

As far as the two products you mentioned, Omegamon only works on
mainframe so that is ruled out. We tried several products like Quest
Central, Embarcadero, BMC etc.

We went with BMC because of the following reasons,

It works on all platforms and fully supported DB2 UDB EEE/ESE DPF
This production uses very less resources as compared to the competitors
Easy to install and configure, most db2 features are available
Whether or not the vendor is going to be around 10 year from now etc.

Let me know if you have any questions or features you would like to see,
Trust me it was very painfull process to decide which one to choose.

Subject: DB2 Performance Monitor

Hi All,

Our company is beginning to evaluate performance monitors for DB2 on
AIX,
Linux, and Solaris. I've seen but not had a chance to work with
Omegamon
XE (now IBM) and BMC Smart DBA. If any of you would care to comment on
their relative merits, it would go a long way toward helping us make a
decision. If any of you have another favorite, please do let me know.

Thank you,
Greg Weinman
