RE: DB2 Newbie

RE: DB2 Newbie

I have used Embarcadero products for a long time - they have DBArtisan as
a nice GUI tool for Administration as well as a change manager, job
scheduler, ER diagramming tool, and tools to help make your SQL more
efficient. They have been very robust and easy to use. I have used them
for MSSQL, DB2, Sybase, and Oracle.

If you are looking for a good method of implementing, managing, and
tracking
database changes, then take a look at BMC Software's Change Manager. This
product simplifies and automates change across multiple RDBMSs including
DB2
(mainframe and distributed), Oracle, Informix, SQL Server, and Sybase.

Does it also help in the tracking of change control? That is an area that
we erally need to get a grip on in our DB2, Oracle and SQL Server
environments.

Thanks,

Dave

Check out Quest. www.quest.com. I dont work for them but I like their
product. I am forced to support 4 DBMSs and db2/udb has by far the
biggest
hole in product line. Monitoring , managing etc + a really lousy GUI
makes
a good DBMS a real pain in the [Email Address Removed] to work with. Quest makes the day to
day
stuff manageable (changing objects, reorgs , finding/resolving locking),
it
installs easily and just plug in the IP address of the server and you're
done. In other words you can do it the hard way (RTFM) or the easy way
with
$$+Quest.

This is the lazydba.com correct?

start. That is where a class is very valuable because my timeline to
learn
is very short. I figure, take a class or two, get some familiarity with
the
system, and then I can RTFM for the rest. I just had a production system
handed to me so I need to learn fast.
