I spent the 80s mostly writing cobol db2 apps on mainframes, in the 90s
shifted to rexx, c, and perl. These days I'm writing code in python -
and having the most fun writing code I've had since I moved from cobol
to rexx.

I really had cobol down pat - i think i'll be able to manage
seven-dimensional arrays in cobol on my deathbed. But I wouldn't want
to write stored procedures in cobol - just because of all the extra
lines of code, difficulty in finding good cobol developers, and
likelihood of loosing my good developers when forced to use cobol (stigma).

One nice thing about postgresql is that it supports a variety of
light-weight languages for stored procedures - like perl and python.
With IBM's recent moves to support php - any chance that db2 might
support a language like python for stored procedures?
