You must have a DB2 Client installed on the WinXP machine and using
Client Configuration Assistant to setup your Connection. The error you
are getting is because no client connection alias has been setup on the
WinXP box. You should always define the ODBC connection thru DB2's
tools, not thru the ODBC Administrator.
Also, since this is XP, make sure that EVERYONE is granted READ, WRITE,
LIST authoritities to the SQLLIB directory. This is a known issue with
V8 on XP in regards to ODBC, OLE, and .NET.

Subject: ODBC connection to DB2 database
I have a server that is running DB2 8.1 on Windows 2000 Server. I'm
trying to create an ODBC connection to the database from another machine
running Windows XP Pro. It should be pretty simple, but for some reason
the XP machine won't recognize the database. When I create the ODBC
connection and then try the test the connection through the wizard, I
get an error (SQL3008IN SQLSTATE 08001). Also, when I try to test the
connection using Excel, I get an error (SQL1013N SQLSTATE 42705). It
says that it doesn't recognize the alias of the database. I'm not sure,
but I don't think it sees the database machine. I'm not even getting
prompted to provide a user id or password. Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks...Bob
