RE: sort overflow, emergency

sheapthres_shr is a hard limit.. Once you reach the limit , probably you
will get the error message..SQL0955C...
You can try increasing SORTHEAP(db cfg) make it 512 , (increase the
sheapthres_shr also), look at the SQL's, as mentioned by others...

Subject: sort overflow, emergency

Hello DBA's,

Environment : DB2 UDB 1.6.1, windows 2000 adv server.

I am getting a huge amount of sort overflows for one application we are
running on DB2. The ratio is about 2 statements/ 1 overflow. Instance
has INTRA_PARALLEL ON, 1 GB of memory assigned to sheapthres, 40 mb
assigned to sheapthres_shr, 1.5 mg for SORTHEAP.

When i take a snapshot for applications i see that my custom program is
using shared memory to perform sorts. If sheapthres_shr is set to the
hard limit of 40 mg and it ran out of free space will i get an error in
db2diag.log ? Also in the snapshot for application how db2 reports
shared memory, in bytes or in db2 pages ?

What else can i do to eliminate the sort overflows ? Please help this is
a huge production issue.

Thank you in advance !
