RE: Tools Catalog

RE: Tools Catalog

It would be a poor DBA that didn't rebind after applying a FixPack, although
apparently there are some that don't! - see
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/db2/library/techarticle/dm-0509zikopou
los/
Anyway, will keep you posted on the outcome of the PMR (03185,048,866 if you
can see it)
Happy New Year Lazy DBAs!

Did you rebind all the packages after the last maintenance ?

including db2schema.bnd ?

Let me know what comes of the pmr.

Take care

Thanks Dan
I'd already tried that, but still got the SQL0670N; if you let
the create
tools catalog command create the tablespace for you, it returns the
SQL0443N. I notice you're running on Windows, we're on AIX.
Will just have
to raise a PMR for IBM Support, but thanks for all your help.
Cheers, And Season's Greetings
Alex

So the easy button is :

define the regular 32k in partition (0)

and the temp 32k in all partitions ......

RE: Tools Catalog

Dan
I've created the tablespace just on the catalog partition, and
when that
failed with the error message below, recreated it on all partitions.
The db2look confirms containers on each partition. But you get
this error
message from whichever partition you choose to issue the create tools
catalog command (with the use existing tablespace and
database option).
Should the tablespace exist on the catalog partition only?

If you first export DB2NODE=0 then let the command create a
tablespace for
you in an existing database, it does places the new tablespace on the
catalog partition only; thereafter it fails with:
=> db2 create tools catalog toolscat use existing database test
SQL0443N Routine "" (specific name "") has returned an error
SQLSTATE with
diagnostic text "".

Useful - the db2diag.log gives

2005-12-29-15.29.32.427256+000 I2939481A297 LEVEL: Error
PID : 983148 TID : 258
FUNCTION: DB2 Tools, DB2 administration server,
writeICMErrorMsg, probe:10
DATA #1 : String, 90 bytes
ICM0901N An SQL error occurred while creating the Information Catalog
Manager API tables.

2005-12-29-15.29.32.427451+000 I2939779A386 LEVEL: Error
PID : 983148 TID : 258

"SYSIBM.SQLTABLES" (specific
name "TABLES") has returned
an error SQLSTATE with diagnostic text "SYSIBM:CLI:-727".

None of these codes narrow it down much. But it does kingd of
suggest tools
catalogs and DPF were not meant to be, at least at this release. Any
suggestions welcome!
Regards
Alex

Can you issue a db2look for the tablespace and do a list
tablespaces on
each node. It should be possible, what about just connecting to
the co-ord node and issue it without the db2_all ? Im not
sure why you
would need to specify the db2_all.

Tools Catalog

Dear All
We've covered all the gotchas in the Command Reference, but
cannot create a
tools catalog on an existing, partitioned database. The
documentation does
not mention a limitation, but can anyone confirm that it is
only possible
to
create a tools catalog on an existing database if it is single
partition?
When we attempt to run:
db2_all "<<+0< db2 connect to test; db2 create tools catalog
toolscat use
existing tablespace tools32kts000 in database test; db2
terminate" the
server returns:
SQL0670N The row length of the table exceeded a limit of "0" bytes.
(Tablespace "TOOLS32KTS000".) SQLSTATE=54010
Now this tablespace is defined as 32k pagesize, is in a normal
state and we
are able to create tables in it.
The instance owner is attempting to run this directly at the
server on a
local partitioned database and is a member of the
DASADM_GROUP. The 32k
temporary tablespace is also in place and the admin cfg
JDK_64_PATH is set.

Season's Greetings,
Alex
