You need to start (mount) the database with the init.ora file that matchs the NEW name...

Hi Guys,

I am cloning a 8174 db on AIX 5.1 - cold database file copies, with
recreating the control file (SET DATABASE ... option).I am getting the
following errors:

CREATE CONTROLFILE SET DATABASE "H88SAND" RESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOG

ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed

ORA-01161: database name H8CPY in file header does not match given name
of H88SAND

ORA-01110: data file 82: '/mounts/oradbf16/oradata/H88SAND/bpapp.dbf'

ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS

ORA-01507: database not mounted

Now, I made sure that I copied the db files cold, and I have done this a
couple of times before w/o any problems.

Research only says that I am not using the right database name in the
control file recreation script?
