now can I copy the alert log out of the way and replace it with a blank file, the reason is to stop the monitor continously
alerting about this error, will oracle complain ? The two commands are issues together so Oracle will keep writing to the alert file :
cp alert_ORACLE.log alert_ORACLE.log_20040818 ; cat /dev/null > alert_ORACLE.log

When you get access to Metalink, look at Note:138913.1. It appears that
this particular error occurs when some of the export utility's sanity checks
fail. How serious this is probably depends, at least, on the purpose of the
exports.
