This is a bug in the 9.2.0.5 patchset (Bug 3560961 "$OH/bin/runInstaller"
link is not updated when 9.2.0.5 is installed"). When you install the 10g
installer the symbollic link "$ORACLE_HOME/bin/runInstaller" is NOT updated
to point to the new 10g installer location and so invoking "runInstaller"
on the 9.2.0.5 ORACLE_HOME results in the old installer (2.2) being run
instead of the new installer.
The workaraound for this bug is: -
cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
ln -s $ORACLE_HOME/oui/bin/runInstaller.sh runInstaller

Hello Zuoke, I have also experienced this exact problem with 9.2.0.5 on
Linux. First I installed the installer from the patchset. Then I tried
to apply the patch with the newly installed installer from ORACLE_HOME.
Got the same error. I then applyed the patch set with the Original
Installer from the unzipped patchset, not the one that was newly
installed in Oracle Home. The Installer when run from the patch set,
recognizes the products.xml.
