Brief Description:
This process provides a practical example of converting an 11i (11.5.9)
production Oracle Applications database on Unix filesystem to RAW devices
with the new Oracle Applications Tablespace Model (OATM). This procedure is
intended for an Applications 11i environment that is undergoing, or is
planned to undergo a single instance to RAC conversion. It can also be
utilized in any standard Oracle Applications 11i environment that will
utilize RAW devices, and meets the pre-requisites outlined in the current
OATM utility release available on MetaLink specific to any Applications
pre-requisite patches, or RDBMS patchset requirements.
The purpose of this document is to identify, and determine the steps and
requirements necessary to install the Oracle Applications Tablespace Model
(OATM) utility, and convert the existing Applications tablespace model,
consisting of 382 application tablespaces to the new model utilizing 9
application tablespaces to RAW devices from UFS. No considerations are made
for site specific, custom extensions to Applications as these are
implementation specific and can not be covered in generic documentation
The procedure outlined in this document is intended to be followed when
working in either a Linux, or Unix OS environment. No platform specific Unix
issues are addressed, as these vary significantly among different OS?, and
are beyond the scope of this document.
This is not a method to allow the transfer of database files to disparate
OSplatforms (e.g. Sun to Linux).
Has anyone done this yet? I have a friend that is going into this. Any
comments? Suggestions? Ideas? Do I tell that he in for it? LOL...
Thanks guys....
