Whatever,
We agree that it is necessary to read and that
it is necessary to learn.
If you want somebody to read, just give the url
In that way that person is learning, reading and you
are contributing as an experienced DBA !

I think the point is that even beginners should read the manuals. This
should eliminate the need to ask 90% of the novice questions.
The first thing I teach folks new to Oracle is how to use metalink and the
online documentation.
I don't think asking people to read first is a complaint so much as a
general practice to keep the traffic more focused on topics that are likely
to keep more people interested in the list.

If you feel that you are "too experienced" for this forum, then find another
one and quit using this as a place to complain...i'd rather see "novice"
emails than all this "I'm above this beginner-DBA stuff"--we were all
novices at one time or another--nobody knows everything...
that is all

LazyDBA is as I understand it a public forum, open to all DBA's at all
levels. The numbers seem to be also growing. A large number increases the
variety of people from different levels and experiences. It's both good and
bad. But in the end everybody learns from everybody. The experienced may
not have as much technical input as the newbie but they can learn as much
from the way the newbie questions are posed or asked. As one line in the
Desiderata says, '...and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they
too have their story.'
Then again, there's always the delete key.

Subject: Purpose of Lazy DBA
Hi,
Can I ask a basic question - what is the main purpose of this group?
Is it a place for total beginners to learn how to be a DBA, or is there some
level of self help that is expected of people before they ask a question?
There seems to be an awful lot of questions that can be answered if people
would bother to spend 5 minutes looking up the information in the
documentation, OTN, or MetaLink.
I know it is called "Lazy DBA", but I think this is taking it too literally.
If the main purpose is as a training ground for people just starting out
with Oracle, then it does not really offer anything to an experienced DBA,
which is precisely the type of person I would have expected would have the
most to contribute..
What are other people's thoughts on this? Are my expectations too high?
Paul
