RE: Purpose of Lazy DBA

RE: Purpose of Lazy DBA

Ed-
You probably recall this from the SQL Server side:
And I thought the Oracle DBAs might enjoy this.
The question posed was: What is SQL?

I am new to this group. I have been an Oracle DBA for over 5 years now
and I have learned that there is no such thing as a stupid question.

I remember when I was still new to Oracle and everything was a bit
overwhelming. For those of us who have grown with Oracle through the
years, it does us all good to remember our Junior DBA days.

HOWEVER, I do hope people will attempt to research their problems first
... perhaps on Metalink or by referencing manuals/textbooks. If you
cannot find the answer elsewhere and within a short amount of time
(there is no sense in spending more than 15 to 30 minutes trying to find
an answer on your own when people on this list can help) then a question
posted here should be treated seriously and with respect from other
members.

At least, that's my take on it.

I have to say that I was struggling last week with what (it seemed to
me)
was a pretty simple sql process and the current critical feeling
regarding
simple questions stopped me posting to the forum for assistance
(incidentally I did rtfm first lol)

This topic comes up way more often in the SQL Server list.
Haven't seen it here for quite while. I've always found
the Oracle list to be a friendlier place. And I hope it
stays that way.

I am new to the list, but also fairly experienced with both sql server
and oracle. I have some really stupid easy questions sometimes on stuff
I know I looked up previously but just don't have the time at some
points. I think anyone should be able to any level of question without
fear of ridicule. Atleast this is what I am looking for in a list.
This current topic is about to make me look else where again for another
dba group. Just wanted to voice my opinion.
