RE: : Oracle Enterprize Manager Console.

Normally it should not be any problems using the connect
sys/[Email Address Removed] in sqlplus to connect to the database, even if you
are using ESRI ArcSDE on top of the database. ArcSDE only connects to
the database as the SDE user when it starts the giomgr process. Every
client connecting to the database starts a dedicated gsrvr process for
the same database.

On my laptop I'm using Oracle 9.2.0.6 with ArcSDE 9.0. I do not have any
problems connecting to the database using sys/[Email Address Removed] it's much more convenient to attach to the database by setting
ORACLE_SID first, then start sqlplus and connect as sys/sys. Nor do I
have problems connecting to my database using the EM console.

Do you recieve any errormessages when you try to connect to the database
using sys/[Email Address Removed] Have you tried to: tnsping database_name?

Hello All,
Ok. I have oracle 9i on winn 2000 server sp4. Oracle is up and running,
I
can not connect using enterprise manager console, nor thru
sqlplus(sys/[Email Address Removed] as sysdba ) that is the log on syntax that
worked in the past in cmd prompt. I am using ESRI_SDE on top of Oracle.
I
can still connect to the SDE_Database but can not get into oracle to
alter
tablespace ext... Any ideas about this one??

Need help I am no dBa.
