I asked previously for advice on how to install a 10g databse, since the
default install (with default database) failed. I then tried creating an
instance with the Configuration Manager, but this failed also, and it
now seems that the DB install failed because there was already an
instance present-even though it did not appear anyplace and did not have
any datafiles. So I tried to do a complete uninstall (as per the advice)
and try again by installing WITHOUT the default database. I used oradim
to delete service and instance with my specific DB name. Then I ran the
Oracle Installer and used it to uninstall everything. Then deleted the
Oracle references in the Registry, and deleted the Oracle folders. There
was a listener service, and apparently no way to get rid of a service,
so I disabled it. Finally, I ran the install again, UNchecking the
default database and accepting all the other defaults. It seemed to
install without any errors or problems. The plan was to install a
database using the Configuration Manager after everything was clean. But
now I see that the old, disabled listener service is still there-except
that now it cannot be started-I suppose because it was pointing to the
old objects I deleted. I do not see a listener.ora file in the
NETWORK\admin folder. In fact it contains only the encaps.cfg,
master.cfg and sqlnet.ora.
So it looks like I need to wipe everything out once again, but make it
more complete. I had thought that the remaining services would either be
overwritten or get incorporated into the new install. The problem is
that I don't know how to get rid of the other Oracle services, like the
listener. Right now, after the install without DB, the following service
show up:
OracleCSService
OracleOraDB10g_home1SNMPPeerEncapsulator
OracleOraDB10g_home1SNMPPeerMasterAgent
OracleOraDB10g_home1TNSListener
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to get a working 10g database
installed, and/or how to get rid of all Oracle services so that a truly
fresh install can be attempted. Thank you.
