Different domains may use databases differently.
As more and more data gets
available via web applications/web services,
the UNDO button on web pages will become
the most used button (just like the
BACKSPACE/ERASE button was the most
used button on my typewriter).
Sometimes you use Oracle Financials to set up
a purchase order and an hour later
you have someone else proof read it,
and then you finally press commit.
Other times, the user gets a receipt and
immediately types it in with a high
probability of having to change the
spelling, amount, date, or accounting code
later.
Both philosophies still use "databases",
but one requires much more dynamic,
much more current backups.
