Hi,
Just curious...
Why backup the RMAN catalog?
A. it is there for safety of losing all controlefiles or restoration
beyond a resetlog.
B. if the database(s) is(are) there you can rebuild it easy. ( I have
only 4 but have no idea what the impact is if there are 400 )
Maybe the more experienced DBA can tell me.

Onderwerp: RE: RMAN Catalog backup
The catalog backup is taken every time a RMAN backup is performed. A
backup of the catalog is on every tape series. The problem comes when
the catalog is unreadable/corrupted the catalog has to be rebuilt. This
is a process that reads the backup tape/s and rebuilds the catalog. It
will take a long time. In the first few versions of RMAN this was a
common event, in these later versions it is less common although it does
happen.
Hope this helps!
Phill
