SAN and Local Disks

SAN and Local Disks

Dear folks,

As we all know Oracle is an I/O intensive database and using the
SAN solutions from many vendors like EMC, HP etc offers better I/O
throughput, reliability and availability than using straight local disks.
The SAN solutions comes with hardware level mirroring and striping, dual
fiber channel controllers, better backbone and chassis design and internal
cache which offers better I/O throughput than local disks. In our site the
Unix admin wanted to move the Oracle financials production database from a
EMC SAN architecture to local disks (sounds crazy right !!! ). I explained
to them the benefits of SAN solution over local disks but was not able to
make an impact. I wanted something in writing so I can show them the
benefits of SAN over local disks, I was wondering if anyone of you has any
white papers or relevant document which can explain the benefits of SAN
solution to local disks for Oracle databases, if so could you please email
it to me.

Thanks & Regards

Jai
