I've seen this when you have a conflict with
$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/lkL$ORACLE_SID and your current instance.

I would backup your database, move lkL$ORACLE_SID to a new name,
and try to start your database. You might also have to recreate the
orapwd file.

It would help if you could tell us what you did to get your database in
this state, and what OS you're using.
