RE: Shutdown immediate Problem

RE: Shutdown immediate Problem

Sometimes a process hangs and the shutdown cannot complete. You can either
wait, or kill -9 smon.

If you want to guarantee that the db comes down right now, and is consistent
for cold backup then follow the advice previously given.
1. shutdown abort
2. startup
3. shutdown immediate.

I am not sure that is officially recommended, but I did hear it in an Oracle
class.
