I had a similar thing happen on IBM Blade Center RHE 2.1. Are you using the parametes as below? This seemes to have fixed it in my case.

./runInstaller -invPtrLoc $OB/invptr.loc

Also, is your ORACLE_HOME set properly? I understand there is a problem with that as well.
