RE: Cloning a database

RE: Cloning a database

My understanding is:
-If you are changing the database name [sid name] you have to recreate the control file.
-If you are recreating the control file, you need to show it the log files as you do it for
the data files.
-I think log files names, and their storage specs are a part of the syntax of create
controlfile statement.
-I have always provided the log files copied from the original database whenever I cloned
the database, but I have a feeling if you will not have the files it will create ones for
you as long as you have provided the names and strorage parameters for these files in your
control file. I think the best for you would be to experiment it. It would show you an
error if did not like to make ones.
