RMAN and RAC Best Practices

RMAN and RAC Best Practices

Hello,

We are running Oracle 9i on Sun Solaris using Sun's clusterware for our
2 Node RAC environment. We use RMAN to backup our database from one
instance to a non-clustered disk location. In our RAC environment Node
1 is used for user access while node 2 is used for Administation and
RMAN. At this time we are not using an OMS so the catalog is in the
control file.

1a. Is it acceptable to run RMAN from one instance as we are?

1b. I have heard if RMAN is used without a catalog, i.e. using the
control file, in our environment where RMAN runs from Node 2 it will not
know how to deal with the archive logs from Node 1. Is this true
(please exaplain why)?

2. In our RAC environment should RMAN be used to backup archive logs also?

3. What special considerations\actions need to be performed when
performing a RESTORE and RECOVER a database in a RAC environment?

Thanks very much,

Effie
